Features & Extras
Filipino FriendFinder is one of the many FriendFinder sites, this one geared toward (you guessed it) Filipinos and those who love them, in the Phillipines, USA, and elsewhere.

As with other sites in the FriendFinder network, here non-paying members can set up a profile, but they can't initiate contact (usually), read full profiles of others, or browse all the listings. However, if someone pays an extra $19.95/mo., free members can contact him or her.

The chatrooms are free, which is a good thing, but it also means that people you meet in chat may not be very invested in looking for a partner. So chat for fun, but you should buy a membership if you're serious about finding someone.

Features at Filipino FriendFinder include instant messenger, a member-written advice "magazine," and the ability to set up a friend network, which lets you share private photo galleries and network with other members. Members can also put up photo albums and even a video introduction. Members can post testimonials about other members, which show up on that member's profile. You have the option of whether or not to show your signup date. Their "Cupid" system will email you links to likely matches, based on your settings. The membership auto-renew is automatically set to "ON" unless you go in and change it--but that's easy to do.

Membership here is totally global; you can browse profiles by continent, country, and state/province where applicable. Of course, not all countries are teeming with members.

Several chat rooms include "living room," "pool side," the "english language room," "club house" (for paid members only) and "gallery," for those with webcams.

I interviewed L.S., a 28-year-old hetero man from, Hisor, Tajikistan, who has been a member for about two months. He says, “It’s okay here, but yeah, it ain’t the best (I dunno why I keep coming back). There are not many people who approach you when you’re a newbie. A majority only seem to talk to people who they know... And when they do talk to you and you’re a newbie, usually it’s because you’re a chick! [DD: What did you come here looking for?] Just people to talk to...funny people...also with challenging things to talk about.”

L.S. told me he hasn’t made any romantic connections yet. I asked him if he has a paid membership. He said no. “I admit it; I’m a cheapskate.” I suggested (at the risk of sounding like I’d been hired by FriendFinder) that he might do better if he invested a little money, since free members are very limited in what they can do on the site. He said, “You know, you might have something there.” I hope he gets back to me and lets me know if my idea worked!

I also spoke with D.C., a 50-year-old hetero woman in CA, who has been a member for one month. She said she came here "looking for friends, met a few, guys and gals. Not looking for romance." I asked why, and she said, "Most of them are not my type or I am not their type." This is about the extent of what I could get out of her. Amazingly closed-lipped for someone who volunteered for an interview, eh? *sigh*
