I found One-2-One Match very bare-bones and not too exciting. I find it hard to believe that they have 4.5 million members. You'd think they'd have a more impressive site.
There's a small advice column, tips for creating good profiles, an IM feature, and the option to create list of favorite profiles. It's free to create a profile with photo, but only members can email or IM others. They allow you to snail-mail them a photo if you don't have one digitized (as do many other sites, by the way; I just don't always think to mention it).
I liked how it counts up the characters you use as you're writing your answers to the essay questions. They say they match people based on their profiles, but the "search" function only has you searching by age, location, sex, and relationship type desired. You also can't search just for profiles with photos. Gay/lesbian searching is possible, but not bisexual – there's no option to search for both genders at once.
Again, no "NeoPagan" option in religion list, and no "writer/publishing" option in the career list. *sigh* Marginalized again.
I interviewed C.S., a 40-year-old hetero man in MA, who has been a member for about five months. He says, "I have talked to about 30 or 40 people here and have met one."
R.C., a 50-year-old married hetero man in MA, found the site relatively easy to use. “The advice on mail through e-mail was particularly helpful.” The features and extras he rated “good but not essential.” He says, “My experience is that this site attracts some high quality participants but it is not as effective as one-on-one networking, particularly for someone who is married and intends to stay married. It would be better for me if the site encouraged people in open relationships to participate.”
J.B., a 41-year-old hetero man in MA, felt that the quality of the prospects was a little below average, and added, “The search engine sucks. The profiles have plenty of searchable data configured into them. The picture capability of this site is also below par. Overall, he found One-to-One Match “definitely a below average site.”
