The folks I interviewed tend to use this site more as a way to socialize online rather than as a dating service. The chat rooms are very popular.
Features include the usual profiles, as well as an instant messenger program, a chatroom, and forums. The members I spoke to had some trouble with the instant messenger service.
I found their questionnaire terrible. They force you to choose qualities about your prospective mates that really shouldn't matter, such as hair and eye color. Also, there are many misspellings.
I was disappointed by a limited list of "religion" options.
I interviewed J.C., a 19-year-old hetero woman in Colorado, and B.H., a 34-year-old hetero woman in Georgia. B.H. says, "I really have not been using this site as a means of finding a prospective mate/partner, due to having found someone locally shortly after having began using Adult Love Line. I'm very happy with the time that I have spent here. I very much enjoy the online friendships that I have formed with various individuals. And, would definitely entertain the idea of meeting some of them in person...on a friendly level."
J.C., a member for about five months, says, "I think the site is pretty tight. When I first got here I thought it was a joke, then when I started to meet some people it became more fun. Because guys started looking at my pics, they wanted to talk to me, and I received a lot of attention. [DD: She's quite the hottie.] In a way it was good, 'cause I liked the attention, but in another it made some of the girls in the chat room a little jealous. So one of the girls made up a rumor about me, which was the most stupid thing I have ever heard in my entire life." She's since received support from some of the other women, but this experience has colored her time on the site. She has only met one guy from the site in real life, but so far, so good. "On our first date, he brought me roses. I'm still talking to him now."
B.H. says, "I think that the website is rather self-explanatory. The only area where many members seem to have troubles is with the instant messenger service. I think that could use some work from the webmasters. I think this site offers many different ways to express oneself. Through the chat room, instant messenger, profiles and forums, there’s a medium for any form of communication."
Both J.C. and B.H. were using their free trial memberships. B.H. says, "I’m not certain that I would wish to pay their monthly fee unless I were seriously looking for a partner. My only complaint about the messages that I've received from members contacting me is that they don't really read one's profile in its entirety before making contact. I often find myself frustrated because of this."
